There are many reasons why you should start considering to leave your existing workplace and find a new opportunity. For me personally, these 3 reasons should be sufficient for you to decide:
- The compensation you receive is not equal to your responsibilities. Although this is in some cases subjective, but if you think that the compensation you receive is not equal with the responsibilities given to you, then you may consider finding a new job. You can compare your compensation with a similar position within your company or other companies to find out if your current compensation is already according to the best practices, but this is not always an apple to apple comparison.
- You don’t get the opportunity to grow your skills or the company doesn’t have a proper development plan for employees. For me personally, this is one of the most important reasons to consider when you have to decide whether to keep working at the current workplace or start finding a new opportunity. If you’re young or still willing to develop your skills, it may be time to make a career change.
- You feel undervalued in your current role. If you feel that you are not being recognized, not given the autonomy to implement your ideas, your ideas being ignored, or given more responsibilities but no promotion in sight, then you may consider finding a different workplace. This is very toxic, and it may lead to demotivation, and eventually affect the overall team, as well as creating a negative atmosphere.
