I’ve been having this problem since using Windows 10 and Windows 11, where on some PCs, I can’t search through the Start Menu Search Bar. Every time I tried to type in the search bar, nothing appears.
Luckily, this simple solution fixed the problem. Give it a try and let me know the result in the comments section.
1. Open the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc or Ctrl+Alt+Delete
2. In the Process Tab, scroll down and find “Search” and “Start”.
3. For each, right click and click End Task. This will terminate both active processes.
5. Try to search in the Search Bar, the problem should be fixed
Please note, that you need to do the above steps every time the search bar doesn’t work. I haven’t found a permanent solution yet. If you think you have a permanent solution, share it in the comments section below.
UPDATE 20/01/22
You can make ctfmon.exe run on Windows startup.
- Open Windows Run (Windows Logo + R), and type: C:Windowssystem32
- Scroll down and find: ctfmon.exe
- Right click, and click Copy to -> Desktop (as shortcut)
- Now, re open Windows Run (Windows Logo + R), and type: shell:common startup
- Now cut the ctfmon.exe shortcut from your Desktop, and paste in the Startup folder
- Done! Now everytime your computers starts, it will run ctfmon.exe automatically and it should solve the search bar problem.
